Performance Guidelines and Rules

Collegiate Competitions
- Rules
- Maximum times for competition: A maximum of 7 minutes for solos & 10 minute for all MS Ensembles.
- Entries are open January 25 to March 10, 2023. If there is room, late entries may be considered.
- Per MSHSAA, MS & HS directors must be present at the event in order for a student to perform.
- Exhibition-Only Categories
- Mallet Solo
- Snare Drum Solo
- Multi-Percussion Solo
- Timpani Solo
- Small or Large Percussion Ensemble
High School Competition and/or Exhibition
- Rules
- Maximum times for competition: A maximum of 7 minutes for solos, 10 minutes for HS Small Ensembles and 15 minutes for HS Large Ensembles.
- One MOPAS State Champion will be crowned in each HS competition area.
- The PAS MO Chapter Day of Percussion will conclude with an awards ceremony for all competitive events. HS Small Ensemble and Large Ensemble State Champions will have the opportunity to perform during the evening concert.
- 2nd and 3rd place performances in each category will also receive recognition and trophy.

- Per MSHSAA, community/non-school affiliated groups may perform in exhibition only.

- Mallet Solo, 9th-10th grade
- Mallet Solo, 11th-12th grade
- Concert Snare Drum Solo, 9th-10th grade
- Concert Snare Drum Solo, 11th-12th grade
- Marching Snare Drum Solo, all grades in one category
- Multi-Percussion Solo (Exhibition Only), 9th-12th grade
- Timpani Solo (Exhibition Only), 9th-12th grade
- Small Percussion Ensemble, 2-8 performers
- Large Percussion Ensemble, 9+performers
Collegiate Competitions
- Drumset Cover Competition Rules
- Maximum times for competition: A maximum of 10 minute for Collegiate Solos.
- Only one entry per category, per competitor.
- Entries are open January 25 to March 10, 2023. If there is room, late entries may be considered.
- This is a LIVE competition taking place at the PAS Missouri Chapter Day of Percussion on Saturday, April 15th.
- Any full-time undergraduate or graduate student attending a Missouri college or university may enter.
- Identifying attire of your college or university should not be worn for your performance.
- Palen Music will supply a 5-piece drumset with standard drumset hardware. MOPAS will also provide a speaker and technology for audio playback.
- Competitors must provide their own cymbals & extra cymbal stands, audio playback device, and any required audio jacks.
- Competitors will recieve a schedule of performance times (will be posted at missouripas.com), and must be ready to compete at their scheduled time.
- Dr. Michael Sekelsky (Ret., University of Central Missouri) will be the adjudicator for the Drumset Competition.
- The PAS MO Chapter Day of Percussion will conclude with an awards ceremony for all competitive events.

- Marimba Competition Rules
- Maximum times for competition: A maximum of 10 minute for Collegiate Solos.
- Only one entry per category, per competitor.
- Any full-time undergraduate or graduate student attending a Missouri college or university may enter.
- Identifying attire of your college or university should not be worn for your performance.
- Dr. Yun Ju "Alice" Pan (University of North Alabama) will be the adjudicator for the Marimba Competition.
- This is a two-part competition.
- Part 1: Video Submission
- Competitors will upload their unlisted performance via Youtube, and email their Youtube link to mopasboard@gmail.com.
- Videos must be uncut and unedited, with high audio fidelity, and submissions must not have been made prior to December 1st, 2022.
- Video submissions are due Friday, March 24th.
- If selected, competitors should be prepared to participate in a masterclass with their submitted work at the PAS Missouri Chapter Day of Percussion on Saturday, April 15th.
- Part 2: Masterclass Invitation
- The Top 3 Competitors from the video submission round will by invited to participate in a Marimba Masterclass presented by Dr. Yun Ju "Alice" Pan at the PAS Missouri Chapter Day of Percussion. Competitors will be notified of their invitation via email and/or phone by April 1st, 2023.
- The PAS MO Chapter Day of Percussion will conclude with an awards ceremony for all competitive events.
